Peacekeepers for Central African Republic

CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC--There are intense diplomatic efforts to halt the resurgent fighting in the Central African Republic.

Leaders of the Central African Republic, Sudan, Chad and Zambia, and the Libyan defense minister, meeting on Dec. 3 in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, agreed to set up a peacekeeping force.

A group of central African countries met in the Gabonese capital of Libreville, to discuss the crisis.

The Republic's President Ange Felix Patasse and President Idriss Deby of Chad were due to attend both meetings.
