Few attend forum on voter turnout

Perhaps allowing voting on weekends, or by telephone, or limiting the amount of money in political campaigns would increase voter turnout.

These were some of the recommendations suggested during an April 20 forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh at the Allegheny County Courthouse, Downtown.

The forum, "Why We Vote... and Why We Don't--A Public Forum on Campaign Reform," was held in response to the lowest voter turnout in county history.

In the fall 2001 election, just 24.6 percent of city voters went to the polls, while only 28.2 percent of county voters cast ...
