Borax to increase boric acid production

Rio Tinto Borax is the world's leading supplier of refined borates and the largest boric acid supplier. Borax supplies nearly half of the global demand for borates.

The Valencia, CA-based company announced plans to increase its boric acid production capacity by 90 kt to 100 kt/a (99,000 to 110,000 stpy) by 2005. This increase will bring Borax's global boric acid production to more than 360 kt/a (397,000 stpy).

Borax's primary boric acid plant in Boron, CA, currently produces more than 260 kt/a (287,000 stpy). Additional engineering and equipment upgrades will increase capacity by 20 kt ...
