Angry truckers threaten to stop hauling from ports

Two months after a contract settlement between shipping companies and longshore workers, more trouble is brewing on LA's docks.

A dispute between the truckers who serve the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and shipping companies and terminal operators over a computer dispatch system is raising the possibility of a work stoppage right on the eve of the busiest season of the year.

Already discontented by the congestion that often prevents them from making more than one trip a day from the ports to local distributors, truckers are accusing shippers of doing little to ease the problem.
