Study shows pretreatment bone density already low in young men with cystic acne

New Haven, Conn. - Bone density is reduced in young men with cystic acne, compared with healthy controls, and in some bones is further decreased by treatment with oral isotretinoin, Leonard M. Milstone, M.D., said.

Bone density, in a prospective study conducted by Dr. Milstone, was measured in 18 young men with cystic acne at baseline and after completing a six-month course of oral isotretinoin 1 mg/kg (Accutane).
