SITTING PRETTY Pacific Life Poised to Go Public, but It's in No Hurry

Tom Sutton isn't rushing Newport Beach-based Pacific Life Insurance Co.'s parent, Pacific LifeCorp, into an IPO. He says he doesn't have to.

"There's really nothing urgent about that," said Sutton, Pacific Life's chairman and CEO.

It's hard to argue with him. Pacific Life's doing just fine as a private company, reporting straight-line increases in assets, revenue and profit for years. Credit rating companies have given the life insurer top billing: An A+ from AM Best's and AA+ from Duff & Phelps, for example.
