Flathead monitors expand watch for pollution sources

COLUMBIA FALLS -- In an attempt to clean up a polluted Flathead Lake, water-quality watchdogs are turning their attention to the streams and rivers that feed the system.

For years, the Flathead Basin Commission has monitored water quality in Flathead Lake, noting especially high levels of nutrients that can cause explosions of algae. This winter, the state-mandated citizens' group set limits on those nutrients.
