The summer of 1997 was not remarkably warm, meteorologically speaking. But state power utilities had great trouble meeting power needs.
The winter of 1997-98 has been remarkably warm for a Wisconsin winter, thanks to El Nino. The last warm Wisconsin winter was followed by the blisteringly hot summer of 1995, another winter in which state-utilities had trouble meeting power needs.
Who knows what effect El Nino's will have on the summer of 1998? Will it cause the state to sizzle, thereby creating the potential for power shortages similar to the ones that gripped the state early last summer -- ...
