Cd'A business turns photos into 'canvas art'

COEUR D'ALENE--Chris Gibbs thinks of himself as a "digital artist."
Using Macintosh computers, a scanner, a number of computer programs including PhotoShop, and a big, specialized printer, he gives an ordinary photograph a softer appearance so it resembles a painting-complete with brush strokes. Then, he outputs the transformed and enlarged image onto canvas.
The result isn't a painting, obviously, but it's no longer a photograph either, Gibbs says. So, he calls his work "canvas art."
