Edom Hill gets OK for dump expansion

RIVERSIDE--Following a $1.3 million Environmental Impact Report study, the County Board of Supervisors on May 27 approved an expansion of the Edom Hill dump.

The action came a few weeks after the closing of the Coachella dumpsite on May 17 and a deadline imposed on the county by state regulators, which would remain fluid as long as the county keeps working on a plan to expand Edom Hill.

Under the plan, trucks can dump 40 feet more (vertically) on the existing landfill.

Relief may come, if and when a recycling operation can be opened either in Indio or Coachella.
