Analyses have been made of the materials of a number of reliefs from the Southwest Palace of Sennacherib at Nineveh by Dr. A. E Middleton of the British Museum Department of Scientific Research in connection with the preparation for the press of the publication by R. D. Barnett and E. Bleibtreu of the sculptures from that palace.2 Ideally, of course, one should have analyses of all the Assyrian sculptures from all reigns, but this would be a major undertaking that would involve several museums.
