Artists need to think like businesspeople if they intend to earn a living on their craft, but few artists receive formal schooling in the art of business ownership.

The artistic rendering of a painting of downtown Wilkes-Barre, a photograph of a child on the carousel at Knoebels Amusement Resort, and a sketch of a scene from Steamtown are products. Film, paints, inks and paper are raw materials. A day-trip to Ricketts Glen State Park to video the falls for painting purposes is research. A meeting with other artists is networking.
