What will the next healthcare system look like?

The healthcare system is drifting aimlessly. Physicians are quitting all over the country. Hospitals are closing. Access to healthcare is becoming much worse, especially for the poor and disadvantaged. The obligation to take care of everyone is still honored in hospital emergency departments, but for many providers and hospitals, that obligation has been superseded by economic imperatives. Today's definition of an idealist is someone who accepts Medicaid patients.1 And if you have no money at all, forget it. Truly, it's been a terrible decade.
