The addition of sociotropy to the dual pathway model of bulimia

Abstract

The dual pathway model of bulimia proposes that internalized societal pressures lead to self-perceived body dissatisfaction. In turn, body dissatisfaction is thought to be associated with dietary restraint and negative affect that influences development of bulimia. In an expansion of the dual pathway model of bulimia, this investigation included the need for approval and fear of social rejection (referred to as sociotropy) in the model.
