It seems almost counterintuitive, at a moment when the labor movement needs to grow, that anyone would need to appeal to the leaders of organized labor to recognize the importance of the Black worker. Opinion polls regularly demonstrate some startling facts. African-American workers remain overwhelmingly supportive of labor unions and unionism. African Americans are the ethnic group which has the largest proportion of its population in labor unions (roughly 18%). African-American union members are among the most active in their unions, often disproportionate to their actual numbers. ...
