ABSTRACT: The partitioning tracer test (PT) is an innovative method for measuring nonaqueous phase liquid (NAPL) volume distributions in contaminated aquifers. During a PTT, a tracer pulse containing nonpartitioning and partitioning tracers is injected to an aquifer and extracted from downgradient wells. The appearance of the tracers at downgradient locations is analyzed to determine tracer mean residence times, for example, using the methods of moments and retardation factors based on reside...

Mobility and Persistence of Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Peat Soils of Southeastern Mexico
Soil & Sediment Contamination ; Spilled crude petroleum from oil wells contains numerous hydrocarbons, some of which are toxic and threaten life. We have studied the mobility and persistence of hydrocarbons in waterlogged soils that contain large proportions of fermented organic matter (Histosols) and large concentrations of
Diffusion of macromolecules in membranes of hyalyronic acid ester
Biomedical Materials ; Biocompatible and biodegradable hyaluronate esters may be useful in peptide controlled release. Permeability and partition coefficients were measured for a series of solutes in membranes formed from ethyl or benzyl esters of the polysaccharide hyaluronic acid. The solutes were primarily peptides
