Partnership could yield lures for bad bugs

Attract-and-kill lures controlled insect pests so well in a recent USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) study that a private company agreed to help develop the technology.

IPM Technologies Inc. of Portland, Oregon, signed a two-year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with ARS to bring new pest management commercial products to market.

In ARS experiments, lures containing a pheromone laced with a minute quantity of insecticide attracted cabbage looper and beet army worm moths. The deadly outcome suggests that attract-and-kill lures can control these and perhaps other ...
