An attempt has been made in this paper to answer basic research questions related to the role of institutions constraining/stimulating the process of agricultural development in eastern India. The impact of institutions on technological change or growth process has been examined with the help of primary data collected in a field survey conducted in sample districts of the four constituent states of the eastern region.
