Giardia species have been recognized as a cause of intestinal disease in a number of mammalian and avian hosts.

Giardia intestinalis (syn. (7. duodenalis, G. lamblia) has been reported to have an infection rate ranging from 50-100 percent with an overall prevalence of 73 percent in young dairy calves.

Other reports have shown somewhat lower infection rates in calves, ranging from 1-100 percent.

Some calves infected with Giardia may not show clinical signs of disease while others will have diarrhea or are poorly performing animals. Disease associated with Giardia typically appear in calves ...
