ABSTRACT

The transient, linear response of a stably stratified atmosphere to thermal forcing in the presence of a critical level is investigated analytically using the Green's function method. The prescribed thermal forcing is located below or across a critical level. The target solution is for the finite-depth steady forcing, but intermediate solutions to the line-type pulse forcing, finite-depth pulse forcing, and line-type steady forcing are analyzed in some detail because these so...

Critical levels
The Malay Mail ; THE Semenyih dam's water level has now dropped to 109 metres, and according to informed sources, the critical level would be 95.6 metres. At the Langat dam, the water level is now at 218 metres, and the critical level is said to be 204.2 metres. Over at Klang Gate, the water level now is at 94
Delay in rice-planting season seen.(Metro & National News)
Manila Bulletin ; Byline: ELIZABETH C. ZAMBARRANO The start of this years planting season in June for some 25,000 ricelands in Bulacan and Pampanga might be delayed because the water level in Angat Dam may still be way below its critical level by that time, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said yesterday.
Wave ducting in a stratified shear flow over a two-dimensional mountain. Part II: Implications for the development of high-drag states for severe downslope windstorms
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences ; ABSTRACT In this study, it is found that the discrepancies among earlier studies of severe downslope windstorms are caused by the use of the critical level height (z^sub c^) instead of the low-level uniform flow-layer depth (z^sub 1 as an indicator to determine the optimal conditions for the
A Study of Two-Dimensional Dry Convective Plume Modes with Variable Critical Level Height
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences ; ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of wind speed and critical level height on dry convection above a prescribed heat source. This is done using the Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS) model in its two-dimensional form with an imposed 400-K soil potential temperature perturbation.
