History of fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy

Spectroscopy using interferometric methods dates back to the late l9th century. This very active scientific period has been called the golden age of creativity. Many scientific giants, including Albert A. Michelson, who is credited with developing the first operable interferometer, were contemporaries during this time (1). Some of them are listed in the sidebar on the next page.
