Canadian progress toward SFM system certification [CSA/ISO standards for forest management]

While Canada has earned a reputation as a world leader in the development of national standards for forest certification, it is seen by some to lag in implementing those standards.

Its National Sustainable Forest Management System standards, CSA Z808/Z809, was completed in late 1996. Canadians have also been active participants in the ISO Working Group 2 on Forestry, which recently completed an ISO technical report to help apply ISO 14001 to forest management.

But the pressure is on to see results in the field. Many forest product buyers in Europe and the USA are anxious to buy products ...
