About $24M was lost due to the blockade Chile placed on Bolivia's silver/lead exports in 1998, according to the president of the mining association. The cargo has been shipped from the Port of Portezuelo in northern Chilean desert territory ever since the Chilean authorities in Antofagasta protested that the transit of minerals was unhealthful to the local populace.
