NEH Chairman Bruce Cole talked recently with writer Meryle Secrest about the nature of biography.

Secrest has written about a number of figures in American culture, among them Romaine Brooks,

Bernard Berenson, Frank Lloyd Wright, Leonard Bernstein, and Stephen Sondheim.

Her new book, Duveen: A Life in Art, is to be published in May.
