AS WITH SO MUCH in Henry Purcell's life, the nature of his connections with the London Charterhouse is rather vague, although he composed the anthem for its Founder's Day, Blessed is the Man (Z.9), and other settings of his may have resulted from his associations with the almshouse and school.
