Summary. The species of Strobilanthes Blume in Java are revised and 25 species recognised. A brief history of the genus is given and the generic limits of Strobilanthes discussed. The morphological variation shown both within and between species is documented. Two new species are described (S. af riasliniae J. R. Benn., S. steenisiana J. R. Benn.), new combinations are made for 4 species (S. backen (Bremek.) J. R. Benn., S. repanda (Blume) J. R. Benn., S. stenura (Bremek.) J. R. Benn. and S. winchetii (Bremek.) J. R.
