New fund seeks proposals for toxic substances research

The federal government has made good on a Red Book II commitment with the launch of a $40-million, four-year Toxic Research Initiative (TSRI) to address the links between toxic substances, damage to the environment and humans. The fund seeks to expand the knowledge base needed to define the adverse effects of toxic substances and funnel that knowledge into future policy development. TSRI is jointly administered by Environment Canada (EC) and Health Canada (HCV), with the latter housing the secretariat.
