Every American will use 1.59 kt (1,750 st) of minerals, metals and fuel in a lifetime

To maintain the American standard of living in 2002, more than 20.8 t (23 st) of new mineral and energy resources were produced for every man, woman, and child in the country. The statistics were compiled by the Mineral Information Institute (MII), a Denver-based national non-profit educational group. The average American's lifespan is 76.9 years. This means that 1.59 kt (1,750 st) of mineral and energy resources must be produced to provide the fuel and materials that the average American will use during his or her lifetime.
