Broad-spectrum antibiotic available as ophthalmic solution

The high solubility of moxifloxacin allows it to be formulated to a higher concentration ophthalmic solution (0.5%) than other 4th generation fluoroquinolones. Because of the inherent antimicrobial properties of moxifloxacin, it can also be formulated without benzalkonium chloride and has a near-neutral pH, resulting in a low incidence of stinging when applied in the eye.
