INTRODUCTION
The management of chronic and blinding conditions such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is often frustrating. The etiologies of these conditions are poorly understood, precluding evidence-based preventive strategies. Additionally, the pathophysiology for each of these conditions is also generally unknown, so that treatment aimed at the underlying disease process is not readily available.
