SUMMARY
'Mendocino' oregano (Origanum vulgare x applii) cultivated in Argentina has been subject to progressive yield loss as a consequence of continuous vegetative propagation. A method of reducing damage to the shoot tip during sterilization procedures for micropropagation is proposed. Single shoot cuttings are less sensitive to disinfecting substances than green tips. Meristems taken from young plantlets that grew in vitro produced less oxidation during the culture than those dissected immediately after disinfecting from plants grown in the field.
