SCHOLARS HAVE BEEN DEEPLY DIVIDED over the authenticity of three personal names which contain the noun bgt in the MT of 2 Samuel but contain the noun bq in Judges, 1 Samuel, or I Chronicles:' yerubbelet (Jerubbesheth, 2 Sam 11:21) versus yerubba'al (Jerubbaal, I Sam 12:1; Judg 6:32; 7:1; 8:29,35; 9:1,2,5[twice],16,24,28); 9(-)boset (Ish-bosheth, 2 Sam 2:8,10,12,15; 3:8,14,15; 4:5,8[twice],12) versus le.Ibacal (Esh-baal, 1 Chr 8:33; 9:39); and mepi(-)bo.et (Mephibosheth, 2 Sam 4:4; 9:6[twice],10,11,12[twice],13; 16:1,4; 19:25,26,31; 21:7,8)2 versus meri(b-)ba'al (Merib-baal, 1 Chr 8:34[twice]; ...
