Delayed onset femoral nerve block following an inguinal field block for hernia repair

A 63-year-old ASA 1 man presented to outpatient theatre for repair of his right inguinal hernia. Following preoperative evaluation, it was decided to perform this procedure under a combination of general anaesthesia and inguinal field block.

Anaesthesia was induced with a propofol target controlled infusion, set initially to 4 /,amu)ml-1 and then reduced to 3 mg.ml-l maintenance with oxygen (33%) and nitrous oxide.
