Heart transplantation in the pediatric age-group and for end-stage congential heart defects

An article by the Mayo Cardiothoracic Transplant Team in this issue of the Mayo Clinic Proceedings (pages 923 to 928) suggests that cardiac transplantation in patients with end-stage congenital heart defects can be a viable therapeutic option. The surgical procedures must be well planned and carefully executed.
