Excision recommended to effectively treat rare tumor

MINNEPOLIS - Excision should be performed as the initial treatment for cutaneous verruciform xanthoma, said Sky Connolly, M.D.

His conclusion is based on a case of a patient with cutaneous verruciform xanthoma who showed initial but short-lived responses to successive treatment with wire loop electrosection debridement, 585-nm flashlamp pulsed dye laser treatment, and radiation therapy. Wide excision with primary closure was eventually tried but was also followed by recurrence.
