New ingredients are making cosmetic comedogenesis a thing of the past

WINSToN-SALEM, N.C. - Irritant contact dermatitis is the most common cause of cosmetic-related "break-outs," according to Zoe D. Draelos, M.D.

"Advances in cosmetic formulations have made them much less prone to induce formation of comedones. However, follicular irritation can still occur and will lead to the development of inflammatory pustules and papules," said Dr. Draelos, clinical associate professor of dermatology, Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, N.C.
