* Objective.-Although fine-needle aspiration (FNA) commonly is used in the diagnostic workup of parotid gland and level I and II neck lesions, the effect of an FNA service on patient care has not been definitively established.

Methods-Follow-up was obtained in 158 patients who underwent FNA. The value of FNA was analyzed by determining the proportions of cases in which management was altered by the information obtained.

Result.-The percentage of lesions classified by FNA as

The Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology ; INTRODUCTION A neoplasm of the parotid gland arises as a "cold" area on a salivary gland scintigram, whatever the nature of the neoplasm, with the exception of a Warthin' s tumor (papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum) and some forms of oxyphilic adenomas. These latter tumors show increased uptake of
Undifferentiated sarcoma of the parotid gland with osseous metaplasia
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; *Malignant spindle cell tumors of the parotid gland are a diagnostic challenge. We present an unusual case of such a tumor that occurred in the right parotid gland of a 53-- year-old man. The clinical and histologic assessments were consistent with a primary sarcoma of the parotid gland. The tumor
Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor of the parotid gland
The Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology ; Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) has been defined as any malignant tumor arising from or differentiating toward cells of the peripheral nerve sheath. We treated a case of MPNST arising from the right parotid gland that showed a highly aggressive course. We reviewed the
