Most of the published literature on meteorology and, to a certain extent, oceanography has emphasized the Northern Hemisphere. However, the different distributions of oceans and continents, and of topography, lead to differences in the circulation patterns of each hemisphere. Explaining these differences helps in understanding the global atmospheric and oceanic circulations. Furthermore, the two hemispheres are closely linked by a wide spectrum of atmospheric and oceanographic interactions; thus, advances in knowledge about one hemisphere will be beneficial to understanding and predicting ...
