Post-war film criticism and film studies in Poland announced a break with tradition shortly after 1945 as a result of the introduction of communism and orthodox Marxism to Polish daily life and culture. The position of cinema in culture was determined largely by its official elevation to the rank of "most important of the arts" which had obviously influenced film theory. As a part of Marxist aesthetics, film studies were determined by the ideological context of productionism and materialism. Many art and film critics, like Zofia Lissa or Stefan Morawski, followed the Marxist approach closely. ...
