INTRODUCTION

The growth in the geriatric population has resulted in an increase in the number of persons at risk for developing Parkinson's disease (PD). The mean age of onset of Parkinson's disease is approximately 60 years. The prevalence of Parkinson's disease increases with age, rising from approximately 1 % in persons over the age of 65 to 2.5% of those patients over 80 years of age. The incidence of new cases of Parkinson's disease is estimated at 20 cases per 100,000 people annually.
