Public Utilities boss to retire; city to merge departments

Public Utilities Director Carl Christensen is retiring after 32 years with the city of Billings, a move that will pave the way for merging his department with the Department of Public Works.

Christensen, Public Utilities director for the past four years, announced last week that his final day on the job would be Friday.

Interim City Administrator Kristoff Bauer told all city employees late Monday that Public Works Director David Mumford would begin managing Public Utilities, aiming toward the eventual consolidation of the two departments.
