Some years after receiving my doctorate, I came upon a collection of Southern Hemisphere (SH) surface chart analyses. I believed it would be a chance to learn about the weather south of the equator, without a Northern Hemisphere (NH) bias. So I had to laugh when I saw that the analyst was none other than Fred Sanders, a Yankee if ever there was one, and one of my Ph.D. advisors while I was at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
