BOIELDIEU: La Dame Blanche

Massis, Delunsch, Brunet; Blake, Naouri, Fouchecourt; Radio France Chorus, Orchestral Ensemble of Paris, Minkowski. Libretto & translation. EMI 7243-5-56355 (2)

Francois-Adrien Boieldieu's La Dame Blanche held the stage in Paris for more than a century after its premiere, in 1825. Set in Scotland, its ultra-romantic libretto - based by Eugene Scribe on three Walter Scott novels -- tells of an amnesiac heir who regains his inheritance with the help of a devoted young orphan disguised as a ghostly "white lady." The melodious score is highly contagious.
