How Do Women's Life Decisions Influence Their Wages?
In the April 2002 issue of The Regional Economist, we discussed the relationship between men's wages and their marital status; specifically, married men earn more, on average, than otherwise identical unmarried men (Figure 1 provides some evidence of this phenomenon). We offered three explanations, which we will review, that might account for this phenomenon.
