Kinetics of reduction of ferric iron in Fe(2)O(3)-CaO-SiO(2)-Al(2)O(3) slags under argon, CO-CO(2), or H(2)-H(2)O

The rates of reduction of ferric iron in Fe^sub 2^O^sub 3^-CaO-SiO^sub 2^-Al^sub 2^O^sub 3^ slags containing 3 to 21 wt pct Fe^sub 2^O^sub 3^ under impinging argon, CO-CO^sub 2^, or H^sub 2^-H^sub 2^O have been studied at 1370 deg C under conditions of enhanced mass transfer in the slag using a rotating alumina disc just in contact with the slag surface. For a 6 wt pct Fe slag at a stirring speed of 900 rpm the observed reduction rates by 50 pct H^sub 2^-H^sub 2^O were a factor of 2 to 3 times higher than those by 50 pct CO-CO^sub 2^ and more than one order of magnitude higher than those ...
