To anyone who knows Sweden, it comes as no surprise that Stockholm's year as the 14th "Cultural Capital of Europe" is among the most celebrated events in Swedish history, making it the number one spot to visit in Europe in 1998. Swedes have welcomed it with all the zest of a nation that throws its energies into any grand national occasion.
Over 1,000 performances, exhibitions, events and programs are expected this year. They started in January and do not end until the final blink of 1998, with fully 60% highlighting Swedish culture. Some last all year, others just a few days.
