Farmers face freezing threat
|
Farmers in the region are bracing themselves for another round of cold weather -- and hoping that a June frost doesn't damage their crops.
"I think the next two nights are the critical nights," Duane Berglund, a North Dakota State University plant sciences professor, said Tuesday.
Low temperatures damaged soybeans, canola and alfalfa in the Rolla and Bottineau, N.D., areas during the early morning hours last Friday.
"About 25 degrees is the threshold for canola," he said. "Any lower and you could see leaf damage or terminal bud damage."
