INTRODUCTION

In patients with swelling and painful conditions of the salivary glands, a large range of diagnostic imaging modalities is available. X-ray sialography is performed to demonstrate changes in the duct configuration or caliber. Since the first description of X-ray sialography in the 1920s, only a few refinements to the technique have been made.1,2 The introduction of cross-sectional imaging techniques has considerably narrowed the indications for X-ray sialography.
