Composters employ a variety of strategies to pull the welcome mat out from under the pests that nature brings to their operations.

THEY don't make for great cocktail party conversation, but flies, rats, mosquitoes, sea gulls and other vectors are a reality when it comes to composting. How to control and eliminate them boils down to some operating basics good housekeeping, quick incorporation of "vector-friendly" feedstocks into compost piles or vessels, assistance from biological pest control strategies and chemical options as a last resort.
