Coastal shipping and the European economy, 1750-1914

Workshop at Hamburg, F7 June 1997 Around twenty scholars from ten different countries gathered at the Museum of the History of Hamburg for a three-day workshop. Funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, it was the second in the series of inland transport conferences organised by the Institute of European History in Mainz and Thames Valley University, London - the first, on inland navigation in nineteenth-century Europe, having taken place in Mainz in September 1993.
